Ray Wheeler
Ray Wheeler lives on the Jordan River in the Glendale community of Salt Lake City.
He is a writer, photographer, and long-time wilderness preservation activist. He has served on the board of directors of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance but has generally been a free agent and minister without portfolio.
He is a co-author of four books including Wilderness at the Edge, the original, 400-page masterplan for adding 5.7 million acres (now over 10 million acres) of BLM-managed roadless areas in Utah to the National Wilderness Preservation System.
In the late 1990's, as co-founder of the Wild Utah Forest Campaign, Ray facilitated an inventory of 6 million acres of roadless Forest Service land in Utah. He has participated in and led many grassroots campaigns.
When not working to protect natural areas Ray explores and photographs them.
